Smudge Free Nails with Rapi Dry-July Giveaway

Some products are just worth the splurge. The biggest reason I go the salon for my weekly mani/pedi, is so that I don’t accidentally smudge my nails. I don’t always have the time to wait for them to dry and I don’t have one of the quick dry machines either. There are sprays you can apply to the nails to speed up the drying process, but they leave my hands feeling greasy afterwards.

For you on-the-go ladies, O•P•I has the solution. If you haven’t already tried, Rapi Dry Top Coat ($11.95) you must be made aware of that it works wonders. You brush it on your nails, as if painting them, and it dries in about five minutes to a hard glossy finish. With this you can do your nails on your own; smudge and streak free. Think of it as an investment for your nails.

Eat Your Way To Healthy Skin

Surely you’ve heard the expression, “you are what you eat”. It might be hard to put the sweets down and not give into the greasy temptations, but think about your health. As good as it might taste it isn’t doing any good to your body. Being cautious of your intake today will save you from a breakout tomorrow.

Clinical nutritionist, Samantha Heller told WebMd, “The healthier the foods are that you consume, the better your skin will look.”

Heller goes on to explain that the foods you eat eventually become part of you. Knowing what to eat and what will benefit whatparts of your body is essential in living a healthy life. That being said, here are some of the foods you should keep around that will do your body some good:

Anything high in antioxidants and Vitamin A is great. It keeps your immune system strong and skin experts say that a daily intake of Vitamin A will do the skin wonders. Low-fat dairy products contain a good amount of Vitamin A. Try low-fat yogurt or any of these fruits:

  • Blackberries
  • Blueberries
  • Plums
  • Strawberries

Essential Fatty acids like the ones in canola oils and salmon will help keep your skin looking young, tight, and glowing. Also snacking whole grain breads, cereals and nuts like the following promotes stronger and healthier hair and nails (The protein from eggs is also good for your hair):

  • Walnuts
  • Cashews
  • Pecans
  • Almonds

When it comes to beverages green tea is a safe choice and an alternative to sodas and syrupy drinks. The tea contains anti-inflammatory properties and has proven to reduce the damage done from the sun’s harmful rays. Not only that, but it’s been tested to prevent and reduce skin cancer. While green tea is beneficial, water is the best way to stay hydrated. Drinking it flushes the toxins out of you and keeps your skin clear.

Start treating yourself to healthier skin. Incorporating these foods and making it a part of your lifestyle, not just a diet, will benefit your entire your body head to toe.

Stop Excessive Sweating

Sometimes you’re not involved in any physical activity what so ever, but for some reason your underarms are excessively sweating. If regular antiperspirant deodorant isn’t working there are other options to consider.

You can save up for Botox injections (which stop the sweating for up to 6 months) or you can something a little less expensive. DERMAdoctor offers a product from MED e TATE called, Hyperhidrosis Control Wipes. The wipes are supposed to be so strong that with one wipe you’re sweat free for a week. It retails for $48 and brings 30 packettes. The Hyperhidrosis Wipes are not just for underarms, but they can be used on other parts of the body that you experience excessive sweating like:

  • Palms of your hands
  • Feet
  • Soles
  • Cleavage
  • Face

The Brazilian Blowout

Dry, damaged and frizzy hair can be a major pain, especially in the summer when the humidity makes it almost impossible to keep your locks smooth. On my last trip to the hair salon I came across a pamphlet about Brazilian Blow outs. It couldn’t have been more eye-catching. The Brazilian blow out offers healthier hair after just one treatment with no damaged being to your hair what so ever.

The blow out is supposed to give you frizz-free hair for up to 12 weeks. While the treatment takes up to 90 minutes to complete, if the results are as great as promised then the time is well worth it. Along with the treatment, there is a line of products especially made to maintain the strength of your hair. The website doesn’t name a pricee for the treatment, but it’s supposed to be around $350. Of course it’ll most likely also depend on your type of hair and length. This is a large investment to make in your hair, but if nothing else has worked then it might be a good idea to give this a try.

The competitor of the Brazilian blowout is the Japanese straightening method. Both treatments are said to bond damaged hair leave you with a frizz-free scalp. Although both methods straighten the hair, the Brazilian says it will leave you with natural body and volume. Some reviews on the Japanese straightner say that you get more of the pin straight look and will lack in volume.  Before trying either of the treatments it’s best to do your research and consult with a stylelist that specializes in it.

And then let us know how it is!

Latest Trend: Vajazzling

If you haven’t read Jennifer Love Hewitt book, The Day I Shot Cupid: Hello, My Name Is Jennifer Love Hewitt and I’m a Love-aholic, then you obviously missed the chapter on how she vajazzles her vagina. While promoting her new book on countless talk shows, the subject of vajazzling always came up. Basically what it is, it’s decorating your vagina with crystals. The first time I heard about it, I thought it was a ridiculous idea. Now that it’s sunk in a little more, I kind of want to try it. For those of you in the NYC area, you’re in luck. Completely Bare Spa offers vajazzling as one of their services that they call completely bare with flair. They even use swarovski crystals on you. According to their spa the vajazzles will last up to five days.

Will you give vijazzling a try?

Odorless Nail Polish Remover

Sometimes you need to change your nail polish at inconvenient places. (For me it happened to be at work) No one likes the smell of nail polish remover and there’s no way it goes unnoticed when you open up the bottle. Fortunately for you and those around you while you’re removing nail polish, there’s a solution. Honeybee Gardens, a naturally based cosmetic company, has an odorless nail polish remover. It’s even beneficial for your nails. The polish remover protects your cuticles with the help of aloe and vitamin E. Honeybee’s formula also includes horsetail extract to strengthen the nails. The odorless polish remover can be purchased on their website for $6.99 and there’s a sample size for $2.99. This product would go great with Revlon’s scented nail polish.

Honeybee’s nail polish is also worth the try. Being that it is also odorless, it doesn’t have the toxic fumes regular nail polish does. Their nail polish is water based, doesn’t peel off, and dries in half the time as others do. You get to choose out of 21 different colors for $6.99 a bottle.

Sephora Chic Nail Prints

Who has time to paint their nails, apply a second coat, and then wait for them to dry? Sephora in collaboration with O•P•I and Minx nails is offering a way of doing your nails that is mess free and not as time consuming. The product is called, Sephora by O•P•I and it’s a set of precut prints for your nails.

Dress your nails up for any ocassion. There’s a ton of designs to choose from, whether you want cheetah, stars, chrome or lace; all eyes will be on your nails. The application is heat activated and come in a pack of 16. All you have to do is smooth it onto your nails using your fingers and cut and file as desired. It brings a variety of sizes allowing you to even apply it on your nails. For $15 a pack I’d say it’s worth the try.

Check out all the designs they have to offer at Sephora.

Julia Roberts Face of Lancome Paris

Julia Roberts was named the face of the new LANCOME earlier this year. Is there really anything this “Pretty Woman” won’t look good in; it’s no wonder she’s the perfect candidate. Roberts is a classic beauty whether she’s a blond, brunette or a redhead, she’s been able to pull off just about every look. Her first ad campaign is for their Definicils Precious Cells Mascara.

I’m all about mascara. Other than bronzer, it’s a daily must and makes a difference in your look. Mascara has the power to open up your eyes, give you fuller lashes, and add a little something extra for a huge difference. Definicils mascara has a very rich formula and goes on wet, so you have to wait for it to dry if you’re adding any other eye make-up. The formula also goes on a jet black. Lancôme claims it will be able to regenerate health into the life of lashes, as well as thicken and lengthen them. This mascara sounds like it’ll be perfect to create bold looks.

Touch Up Your Roots Without the Mess

Have you ever wished you could touch-up your roots without the loss of time and the mess? Touch-ups are time consuming and whether you do them at home or the salon, you’ll need to set a good amount of time for it aside. Sometimes we don’t have all that time. There are products you can actually use to hide those nasty roots and give you a little extra time before you’re scheduling your next hair appointment. MimicColor is a powdery color you apply with a brush or fingertips. This works by blending in with the rest of your color and it won’t smudge off. The before and after pictures look convincing, but I’m kind of skeptical on how great a powder will cover up roots. They come in four different shades and are supposed to blend even if it isn’t an exact match to your color. This is one of those products I’d have to try and see to believe.

If you’re not really buying the powder touch up try OSCAR BLANDI’s Pronto Colore Root Touch-Up & Highlighting Pen. It looks more like a lip-gloss than anything else. Although this comes in light liquid form, it contains no peroxide or ammonia. Both products wash out the next time you shampoo. If there’s one thing I’m careful about its skin and hair. Anything that will give a couple more days before I need a touch-up (without the harmful chemicals) is worth the try.

Detox Your Hair

Here’s a beauty quickie you can do at home. I don’t know about you, but I’ve got about 5 different bottles of shampoo in my bathroom right now. I’m always trying something new and I just don’t want to throw out a perfectly good bottle of shampoo. Add a teaspoon of vinegar to one of your shampoo bottles, shake it up and waah-laa! You now have your own homemade remedy shampoo that you can use once a week. Vinegar is good for removing build up and closing up hair cuticles, which is great for preventing split ends. The vinegar also helps remove scaly build up. If the scales on your hair cuticles lay flat, that gives your hair the chance to be shinier. Apple cider vinegar is a good choice for trying this out. You can also use plain white vinegar.
