Simple Hair Styling

We’re always seeing commercials for new products that offer something too good to be true. The Goody’s Simple Style Spin Pin ($6.49) is one of them. It look like a bobby pin twisted into a swirl effect. The box brings two of them and it’s supposed to be all you need to hold your hair in place; Instead of the 40 bobby pins or scrunchie you’d normally use. It wasn’t until I tried it that I realized it really did work the way it says it will. Simply gather your hair and twist it into a bun. Then twist one or both of the pins on opposite sides. Wah-lah you have a bun without the million and one pins holding it together.

The pins come in different colors like Brunette, Dark Blond, and Dark Hair. And best of all, there are no dents in your hair afterwards from using a hair tie.

Emma Watson’s Short Do

Harry Potter star, Emma Watson revealed her newest look. The dramatically shorter cut looks great on her. It’s sort of Mia Farrow in Rosemary’s Baby. Here’s what she had to say about it,

“Dear all. Cut my hair off a few days ago… Feels incredible. I love it. I’ve wanted to do this for years and years; it’s the most liberating thing ever. Hope you like. Big love from Emma x”

I can only imagine how liberating it really does feel, but I won’t be cutting off my long locks any time soon. Don’t think I’d pull it off as well as Emma. What do you guys think of her new look?

Snookie’s New Hair Do

Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi has said goodbye to her signature hair; the poof. The style we’ve known and gotten to love on Snooki is no longer. She told E! Online:

I’ve been wearing it since I was 16, and now everyone expects me to wear the poof.

I just don’t want to be predictable with my hair and the poof. I want to be different. That’s why I’ve started to do the tease, do the curl and pretty much just a different look.

The new do with red streaks looks good on her, and it’s always good to make a change. Wether it’s you beauty routine, hair, makeup, or style; change is good. Who wants to be predictable?

I say it’s Fab. What about you?

Touch Up Your Roots Without the Mess

Have you ever wished you could touch-up your roots without the loss of time and the mess? Touch-ups are time consuming and whether you do them at home or the salon, you’ll need to set a good amount of time for it aside. Sometimes we don’t have all that time. There are products you can actually use to hide those nasty roots and give you a little extra time before you’re scheduling your next hair appointment. MimicColor is a powdery color you apply with a brush or fingertips. This works by blending in with the rest of your color and it won’t smudge off. The before and after pictures look convincing, but I’m kind of skeptical on how great a powder will cover up roots. They come in four different shades and are supposed to blend even if it isn’t an exact match to your color. This is one of those products I’d have to try and see to believe.

If you’re not really buying the powder touch up try OSCAR BLANDI’s Pronto Colore Root Touch-Up & Highlighting Pen. It looks more like a lip-gloss than anything else. Although this comes in light liquid form, it contains no peroxide or ammonia. Both products wash out the next time you shampoo. If there’s one thing I’m careful about its skin and hair. Anything that will give a couple more days before I need a touch-up (without the harmful chemicals) is worth the try.

The Road to Healthy Hair

There are those great hair days. The days where your hair is extra shiny, soft and makes every outfit you try on look amazing. And then there are the bad hair days. No matter how you style it or how much product you put in it; nothing seems to work out. The importance of taking care of your health, applies to your hair. You don’t get a fit body by watching TV and eating chips. You get active. So get active with you hair too.

Maintenance
First things first; stop washing your hair everyday. Shampoos strip the hair of its natural oils that are actually good for it. Going a day or two without shampooing is healthy. In between washes brush it with a bristle brush. It helps distribute the natural oils evenly. Make dry shampoo your friend. They usually come in a light spray or powder form. Dry shampoo absorb the excess oils and give you an extra day of not having to wash your hair.

Trim & Protect
The occasional trim is very helpful. It maintains a healthy appearance and gets rid of split ends. Split ends cause fly aways and makes your hair more prone to frizziness. Heat damage from styling tools causes frizziness as well. There are many products that provide heat protection. Tressemme’s Heat Protectant Spray, protects hair from the damage blow dryers, flat irons and other hot tools cause.

Moisturize
Color treated hair needs extra attention. A weekly deep conditioning treatment will restore the damage chemicals in hair dyes cause. The chemicals dry it out and sometimes makes the hair stringy. Weekly treatments provide moisture and adds the much needed bounce.

CLOSED-Free Batiste Dry Shampoo Event & Giveaway Contest!

As beautiful as summer weather can be; you have to be extra cautious of your hair. The sun’s rays can fade colored hair as well as damage it. Chlorine and salt water doesn’t do it any better also. On top of that you’re using blow-dryers, flat irons, hot rollers and all that extra heat can push your hair over the edge. Washing your hair might seem like the last thing you need to worry about, but shampoos actually strip the hair of its natural oils.

In the past I shared with all of you my re-discovery of dry shampoo. Batiste Dry Shampoo is a life saver. I spray it on my roots when they start looking a little greasy and it absorbs the oils. If you haven’t had the opportunity to try it yet, the wonderful people of Batiste are teaming up with Summer Solstice event in the city this coming Monday, June 21st.

Not only is this event free, but the Batiste team will be giving free dry shampoo makeovers, discount cards and free samples of their product. The event will be at Times Square on the Broadway Plaza (Between 46th & 47th street). Starting at 7:30am you can spot Batiste’s white tent and see for yourself how amazing their dry shampoo is.

My Latest Obsession

I recently shared with you guys my goal to stop washing my hair everyday. It’s doing more damage than actually making my hair look good. The dry shampoos I’ve tried haven’t cut it and led me to the continued routine of washing my hair constantly. I got the opportunity to try Batiste’s Dry Shampoo and I have to say, I’ve fallen in love. It’s been three days now and I have not washed my hair. Which is amazing since I have really fine oily hair that starts to look oily the day after its been washed. I’ve had work, finals at school, and attended the gym and my hair still looks great. (Tip: When headed to the gym apply the dry shampoo before starting your work out as well as afterwards).
It’s really simple to use. Just spray your roots a couple inches away. Let it dry, brush it out, and style your hair as usual. Talk about a quick morning routine.
Batiste Dry Shampoo is affordable and worth it at only $7.99 for the full size and $3.99 for the “on the go” travel size. Whether you use the Original scent or Blush (which smells great, like perfume for your hair), you won’t be disappointed with the results.

Color your Hair at Home

Coloring your hair at home can be sort of stressful. For first timers it’s best to see a professional about it. You don’t want to walk away with pink hair, unless that’s what you were aiming for. Once you hit the hair aisle don’t get overwhelmed. You might know what color you’re looking for, but there’s also a ton of brands to choose from. I get great results from Clairol’s Nice n’ Easy every time. You don’t just get a beautiful application of color, but it wont look like just one dull shade thanks to the built in highlights.

Give Your Hair Volume & Shine

I’m constantly searching for a magical product that’s going to my hair outrageous volume and shine. Many products have failed me, and that’s why I was so excited to give Living Proof, Full Thickening Cream, a try. You simply massage about a quarter size to your roots and leave it in for about five minutes. Then after rinsing, style your hair as usual. I have very fine hair, and am cautious about products that leave my hair oily. The results were noticeable. My hair was soft, healthier, and you could see more lift in it. It did feel a little thick, which is something I’m not used to feeling. However, the best part was how GREAT it left my hair smelling.
You can’t have gorgeous hair without shine. If there’s one thing I love more than face serums, its hair serum. Avon’s Advance Techniques Dry End Serum is another great smelling product. It tames fly aways, while smoothing and repairing dry ends. This is a must have for those who color their hair. John Frieda’s Frizz-Ease collection is dedicated to making hair look healthier. The 100% Shine Glossing Mist, adds shine in a spray form. It’s great for fine hair, because it’s a non-greasy formula.
